Magnetic stripe encoding

Magnetic stripe encoding

The magnetic stripe is very similar to the magnetic tape of cassette. The majority of magnetic cards confirm to ISO standards for magnetic cards. The information is encoded with the aid of special encoder into the three tracks.

  • The first track is "read only" and there is the possibility to place up to 79 characters. It is used for alpha-numeric information.
  • The second track is "read/write" and there is the possibility to place up to 40 characters. It is used for numeric information.
  • The third track is "read/write" and there is the possibility to place up to 107 alpha-numeric characters. It is used mainly for bank purposes for PIN retention.

We are able to encode the magnetic stripe according to the wish of the customer. The customer only transmit us the database which should be recorded on the magnetic stripe.

Please contact our experts who advise you with pleasure in the event of vagueness and specification of information about magnetic stripe encoding.

The types of magnetic stripe

There are two types of magnetic stripe for encoding:

  • LoCo (Low Coercivity)
  • HiCo (High Coercivity)

It is necessary for the client to know which type of magnetic stripe its reader is destined for.

There can be encoded random information on the magnetic stripe, for example:

  • name and surname of card holder
  • identification number
  • bonus etc.
