Chip encoding
Memory and microprocessor chips are internal storage areas in a computer or digital device that hold data (e.g. identifying data) and programs for fast access so that the computer or device can operate. They are freely configurable according to the type of chip or customer requirements. The contact or contactless chips can be used and personalized.
Different types of chips:
For plastic cards with contact chips there are commonly used the chips of producers:
- Infineon (Siemens)
- ST Thomson
For plastic cards with contactless chips there are commonly the chips of producers:
- MIFARE Standard (PHILIPS) - memory size 1 kB or 4 kB, R/W
- EM Microeletronic Marine - memory size 64 bit, R/O
